Isomag Bearing Seals Solve Repulper Contamination

Share

Isomag bearing isolators solve bearing contamination issues in vertical pulper gearboxes for paper mills across North America. Repulper gearboxes are driving large tubs of water and recycled paper. The rotating shaft of the gearbox is typically sealed with rope packing. That rope packing needs to have the compression set by mechanics to reduce the leakage rate to a fast drip at best. If the compression on the gearbox shaft if too tight the shaft wears out.

Isomag developed the V8 bearing seal with the cutter flange to provide a solution to this problem for all customers in the Pulp and Paper industry. The solution was to elevate the seal above the paper stock and water that accumulates on top of the gearbox and add a shear point near the outside diameter of the seal rotary face to remove a large portion of the paper stock away from the sealing faces. Adding a large diameter slinger ring between the gearbox output upper bearing seal and the stuffing box packing gland also helps divert the packing leakage away from the seal. Isomag’s solution has prevented bearing contamination and eliminated bearing failures to the vertical pulper gearboxes.
