Hub City 200 Gearboxes Receive Longer Life With Isomag Bearing Isolators
A premium synthetic paper mill in West Virginia faced continuous problems with broken down Hub City 200 gearboxes all over the plastic extrusion plant. The Hub City 200 is a small parallel shaft drive gearbox, that was considered a throw away piece of equipment after use. The Hub City 200 is factory equipped with dual lip seals. Those lip seals would hold up for about 6 months, then the gearbox would fail. The mill needed to find a better solution, in both run time, and costs savings.
The mill was introduced to Isomag bearing isolators through a gearbox repair facility and channel partner. The gearboxes are installed vertically in the mill, and the bottom shaft is flooded in an ISO 220 gear oil, while the top shaft is in a splash lube environment. Isomag bearing isolators are unique in that they are both a positive seal but also do not damage the shafts on the host equipment. The mill went from a MTBF of 6 months to more than 4 years without a hitch. Saving that hundreds of thousands in cost savings for a relatively small investment.
