Isomag Bearing Isolators Keep Water Out of Falk 2135YBX Gearbox

International Paper, in Grande Prairie, Alberta found Isomag bearing isolators to be the perfect solution for their Falk 2135YBX gearbox. This double reduction right angle output shaft speed reducer is used to drive the Kaymr outlet device on the mill's digester. This Falk gearbox experienced problems of ingress of water the bearing housing from the outlet device, eventually causing the gearbox to fail. The one weakness of this Falk gearbox is the lip seals that are installed. Oil seals wear out in about 6-8 months on continuous use. Then the contamination of, or loss of lubrication from the bearing house starts. On top of that, the lip seal wears a grove into the shaft, making it necessary to either refurbish the shaft or get a new one when it's time to repair.
